Biography
Bek is an exchange officer from the Breen Confederacy with Starfleet as part of a trial program to improve relations. He is progressive, for a Breen, and believes his people need to move on from their past way of doing things in the wake of the war with the OOR.
Childhood and Teenage Years
Mid-Years
Bek had already started a family at an age when other species wouldn't even be out of primary school. By the time he had completed his formal education, his children were already at an age where they could begin living on their own as well. This opened up the majority of his lifespan to pursue a career in the Breen Confederacy military in a time when the Breen were getting more involved in the war with the OOR as their colonies began to be enroached upon. At the age of twenty Bek left to fight in the last years of the OOR war.
Even early in his career, Bek's unorthodox views on Breen politics and galactic relations were forming. While most of his comrades saw their participation in the alliance simply as a matter of survival with the assumption that once the war was over it would be business as usual, Bek began to respect the aliens he was fighting alongside, seeing them as beneficial allies even outside of war, instead of simply people to be exploited for their benefit. When he began voicing his views, however, it stalled his career. He advanced in rank slowly during the war, and for the initial time after the war because of his unorthodox views.
Present Life
A movement began in the ranks with other veterans of the war, which is what gained enough support to begin the officer exchange program. Bek and others were able to convince their superiors to atleast give cooperation a try, and so the exchange program was started to observe what benefits or costs would come out of working with other governments instead of just exploiting events. And so Bek was sent to serve with Starfleet aboard Stronghold Station, a location chosen because of its already mixed government crew and population. A location where his supporters believed that he would have the most exposure and opportunity to work together, and where his opponents believed that, given the rocky relationship among the station's residents, where he may fail and prove them right. Bek is also already a great-grandfather, at an age much younger than most species would be.
Bek has had some initial difficulty in assimilating into the station's crew. Most people still remember the Romulan saying "Never turn your back on a Breen" and don't trust him. Others just have difficulty in relating to him, since his refrigeration suit and the reclusive nature of the Breen tend to distance him from others. Bek is determined to make the assignment work, and prove himself as a valuable officer to his new crewmembers.
Bek is living on Stronghold Station, serving as the station's Chief of Operations. Although he is still a member of the Breen Confederacy Military, as part of the officer exchange program he answers to Starfleet and Stronghold Station's chain of command.
