Bartering

Darius was taught how to properly barter by his father, and has used these skills to not only seek passage on passing freighters but to buy things for cheaper-than-usual prices.

Exercise

Darius enjoys various forms of exercise and has continued to keep in shape, especially since in his line of work someone may try to take advantage of his seemingly weak size.

Darius was taught farming by his mother, on their home planet of Sherman's Planet, where farming the land was one of the only ways to live.

Biography

Childhood and Teenage Years

Darius was born in 2452, ten years before the war ended, on Sherman's Planet. His parents, Luke and Molly Valentine, already had four other children. James Henry, brother, twelve years older, Kamil, brother, ten years older, and Dušana and Milena, twin sisters, nine years older. His mother had the dwarfism gene, and it was passed on to him. Both his father and his mother were born on Sherman's Planet, as was their parents and so forth and so on, so it was a very rare thing for a Valentine to leave the planet. He was taught various skills growing up, including bartering and farming, that has served him well over the years. As a young boy, he grew up on his parent's large farm. Most of the people who owned acres of land on the planet had long since left, especially with the war going on around them.

They were located near the Federation-Klingon border and although they were not a prime target, most locals feared the OOR and could not find the courage to remain there. Darius' parents refused to leave, because the land had belonged in the family for years. When his mother married into the family, the lands were merged and became larger so much had been put into this land and they refused to lose it or worse to give it up. Some that left sold to them and some others sold to other farmers. From a young age, Darius worked on the farm and became quite adapt at working with his hands, and got used to working in order to feed himself and his family. He had no formal education.

By the time Darius was ten years old, the war had ended and peace was proclaimed. Many were poor throughout the universe, but his family was doing well and could easily take advantage of those who were passing by and needed something from them. Darius grew witnessing this and has learned that one always treats family with love and care, but will quickly treat those they do not know with apparent care and love but also with inherit distrust and skepticism. He was raised with this xenophobia, so to speak, from the time of childhood to when he was nineteen years old.

Mid-Years

It was at this age that he decided to leave and explore other worlds, he asked his father for his blessing and he gave it. His mother made the belt and pouch that he wears to this day, which although not expensively made has far more value to him then anything else he owns. He traveled from system to system bartering his way around the system, playing games of chance and bartering his winnings with various captains and other high officials to gain favor with them and gain passage on their ships.

He spent a year traveling like this until finally winning a Ferengi freighter from a captain after beating him in Dabo, which he used to run merchant missions and gain friends and business associates that could help further his career as a merchant. He hired hands from time to time to help him catalog his findings and get them ready for sale, especially using them for the cleaning duties of the various items. He finally came to the Stronghold Station in 2482 and after surveying various places around the station decided that he would buy a space and turn it into his shop, where he could settle down and sell his items without the need to travel all around the galaxy. He sold the ship and has since remodeled and taken the space and turned it into his very own shop, Valentine's Goods.

Present Life

The past ten years on Stronghold Station have been good for him, he has gotten to know various people who live on the station and has even gotten to know some people he calls friend. He has hired people once getting to know them and has let them work at his shop. Five years ago he received news that his parents were sick and he traveled home to see them, it was then that his parents, Luke and Molly Valentine, both died peacefully in bed. He attended their funeral and after two months he returned back to Stronghold Station, where his store remained and had been up-kept by his employees and friends. He has remained in contact with his siblings since then, but has stayed on Stronghold Station for the last five years. People come and people go but Darius has remained a standing figure on Stronghold Station for the last ten years, and other then the two months visiting with family, he has remained here and although things have changed he still knows who he can and can not trust.
