Biography
loS taI' q'taQ was born in the voSpegh Sep (Vospeg Region) of Qo'noS to the House of b'vayn, a little known common House with few ties to the military. Though the family's path lay largely in the ways of commerce, nevertheless did the young Klingon, upon his Age of Ascension, journey to the gates of veng wa'DIch, the First City where he began the first steps in his training to become a warrior for the glory of the Empire.
Even as a child, loS expressed an uncharacteristic love for the arts; not the least of which being the Klingon form of painting, a skill which he learned under a master of the art while in veng wa'DIch, and a hobby which he carried with him even after his transfer to the hallowed halls of the Qam-Chee military academy. This did not, however, mean that he neglected his fighting skills. To the contrary, his skill with the the rItlh naQ, the "pigment stick", was equalled only by his skill with the blade, both the betleH and the less conventional straight sword to which he became particularly enamoured. Even without blades, loS proved that his prowess in hand-to-hand combat was difficult to equal.
Despite this, loS graduated only in the middle of his class at the Qam-Chee academy, a fact over which he did not despair since none of his House had ever entered service in the Klingon Defense Force, those that fought instead serving as members of "House forces"-- private military forces.
It should be known that loS had not always been known by that name; rather, it was during his twelve-year stint aboard the aging K'tinga class vessel _QIS_ that it was adopted. By that time loS has worked his way to the rank of ra'wI', commander, and was even yaS cha'Dich, second officer of the ship. _QIS_ was engaged in a boarding action against a Gorn raider, and loS led the assault team. Though slow and presumably dim-witted, the Gorn fought with a ferocity that the Klingons had not entirely expected, and the battle was bloody. loS himself engaged the vessel's commander, and when he found himself disarmed by the reptilian creature, he attacked with tooth and nail. The Gorn landed several severe blows, two of which tore into his face and blinded his left eye permanently.
Though in the aftermath of the battle he wore the wound proudly, nonetheless did he receive the ridicule of his subordinate, an ambitious Sogh ra'wI' by the name of Q'daS whom was looking for promotion. "loS," he'd say, recognizing the vague shape of the deep cuts that resembled the Terran number. "You bear the mark of four. Perhaps that is where you should be in command!" loS recognized the pitiful attempted at a witty challenge, but the ra'wI' wasn't finished yet. "Tell me, 'loS'. Can you see as well with one eye as you did with two? Why don't we find out! Perhaps if you can't, I shall remove the other one for you!"
Still charged from his vicious unarmed battle with the Gorn commander, loS made short work of the challenger. Thereafter he was lauded by his peers, and he took the name of 'loS' as a badge of honor. Never again was another challenge made to his position.
But loS eventually grew discontented with the Empire; it was becoming far too docile, thanks in part to the Khitomer Accords which had been drafted so long ago. No more was the Empire interested in conquest, merely engaging in petty border skirmishes with ememies not even worthy to be called as such. And so loS left the KDF, purchasing with meager savings and earnings from his art a decrepid shuttlecraft around which he based a new role for his life: that of a bounty hunter.
The money was good, though sporadic, though this was not his chief concern. Now this was a test of a Warrior's meddle! Few creatures fight as hard as those with nothing left to lose but their freedom. And fight they did, as did loS in return. Never since his early days in the KDF did he feel such a fire burning in his blood! For three-quarters of a decade he roamed the two quadrants, bringing in some of the most dangerous criminals the nations had to offer, many dead, many alive, but most in a state in between.
The thrill was not to last, however. On what was to be his final run as a bounty hunter, he was transporting a criminal from a little-known race called the Khau. Using a tricorder to disrupt the field of its holding cell (a trick loS was to reproduce later in his life,) the alien incapacitated loS.
The Klingon was dismayed to awaken later on Highland Station, his shuttle and all but the meager possessions he carried on his person gone. He wandered the station for a number of days, unable to afford even passage on the public transport vessels. It was then he came upon the notice board.
Hellesport was hiring.
His career with Hellesport was rather accelerated. Within months he was promoted to Acting Chief of Security, and ultimately the postion became permanent with a rank of Major. But the career was to be relatively short-lived; months later loS was to receive a message from Qo'noS, from his dying elder brother. The same genetic anomoly that killed their father was killing his brother (and, as loS found, would eventually kill him.) Rather than allow his brother to die of sickness or suicide, loS promised to take him on a final mission of glory, so that he may die in space aboard the deck of a warship as a Warrior should, rather than in bed.
Resigning his position on Hellesport, loS and a handful of companions stole the Klingon B'rel class IKS Rotarran which was residing at the station, to provide the necessary vessel for the mission. This act proved too late, however, and by the time the stolen ship reached Qo'noS, the brother was already dead, killed in a bar fight. loS found himself shamed and felt a great personal loss of honor for stealing the vessel, a feeling which would haunt him for a long time.
Eventually the Klingon fell in with Ushio, becoming part of the upper staff of her newly formed "Cartel". Surprisingly, for a criminal loS participated in very few of their illicit activities, preferring to provide for the defensive needs of the "company".
More than once did loS briefly drift away from the Cartel, vanishing for months at a time without a word as he engaged in long introspections. When the recent Klingon rebellion against Krotoc broke out, he was on one such leave, and almost immediately responded to the cries of battle. He longed for the absolution of his dishonor, and it was in this war that he thought he would find it.
