New Character Profile
Character profiles are an excellent way to let others learn more about your character (OOC, of course) and for you to continue to update your character as their adventures continue in the Holotrek universe.
Contents |
Profiles are a mix of information that is built into the system (coded) (e.g. race, rank, etc) and that is purely Role Playing (RP) (e.g. biographies, personal interests, etc). This can seem intimidating, but once you get started it becomes a lot more clear. And also, never hesitate to ask questions of your fellow players and/or wiki editors. We're glad to help you get started and guide you through the initial stages of your character creation.
Remember though, things on the wiki should only be a reflection of what's gone or is going on in Holo. So you still have to make a proper bio and traits in game. Your character's wiki page is just a place to add additional information, and a place to update that biography as events happen in the game.
Step One: Create a Holotrek Character
A seemingly simple step that is vital! Go to the Holo main page and log in to the Holo universe. Or alternatively, using a MUD client, login to holotrek.org at port number 1701.
Player characters, or Holo organisation administrators (Directors), or even our system administrators (the Q), will help guide you through this first coded step.
Step Two: Starting on the Wiki
Create a Holo wiki user account. To do this contact Mel in game and request a login.
Then start a character page. This is different from your user account page. The latter is for information about the player, while the former is about information about the character.
It is this editor's opinion that the easiest way to create a new page is to run a search of the name of your character. This is the name that will be the page title (e.g. Jason Ikas, Rusa Tason, Shihaya ir-Apnex t'Khnialmnae, etc).
Do note that capitalization matters. The search results will, hopefully, come up blank and you can click on the link following "There is no page titled "<Character Name>". You can create this page. "
Where <Character Name> is the name of your character, without the "<>".
Step Three: The Infobox
The infobox is a quick summary of your character and is supposed to look like this:
It is obtained by using the following sourcecode. Any field that does not apply to your character can simply be left empty.
IMPORTANT: You must erase the leading spaces for the template to work!
{{Character Infobox
| image=[[Image:.jpg|230px|center]]
| fullname=
| alias=
| species=
| gender=
| dob=
| homeworld=
| affiliation=
| mother=
| father=
| siblings=
| marital-status=
| spouse=
| children=
| relatives=
| rank=
| insignia=
| profession=
| posting=
| position=
| clearance=
}}
Please note that a character image is not required. If you wish your character remain solely up to your Holo description and the imaginations of your fellow roleplayers, that's perfectly acceptable. But to upload an image you need to click on the upload link in the Toolbox on the left-hand side of the wiki's main page.
Please note that any image uploaded needs to follow this wiki's file and copyright guidelines. If you're not sure what that means, feel free to ask any admin.
Step Four: Character Template
Below you will find the starter template code for a generic character page. Copy and paste it onto your character page to use as a starting point. This is just a generic template, an idea of what kind of information you can provide, but there is no obligation to it. Fill in as much as you want to or do not use the template at all and instead write only what you want.
If, however, you do choose to use the below fields, try and keep the format consistent with other members of your organisation and follow any additional rules set by your Director.
IMPORTANT: You must erase the leading spaces for the template to work!

Step Five: Experiment
Once again, this is your character page! Play around with it. Wiki editing often appears to be more complicated than it actually is, so just try out new things. Worse come to worst, you can always undo a change you don't like.
And never be afraid to ask others for help or advice.
Step Six: Other Characters
Check out some other characters' profiles and see what you like to use on your own page.
Some examples include:
- Rhiana e-Fveirrolh t'Aegis - RSE character
- Stephen Braun - UFP character
- Nalah e-Llhaenn t'Khnialmnae - RSE character
- Shiro - Independent character
- Bejal Azar - UFP character
Organization Specific Information
Hellesport
Hellesport Station is an Holo-specific trade station, located in the Klingon-Romulan Neutral Zone in a position local to all three of the major Alpha-Beta Quadrant empires. This strategic location makes it a prime center for trade, both legal and illicit, for the three regional powers as well as many independent or non-affiliated entities.
Independents
Independent characters must be applied for in-game. Applications will only be considered once a player has proven himself or herself to meet applicable RP standards and so players new to Holo, barring extremely exceptional circumstances, will not be accepted.
Independent characters will not have the support of an org and must provide for themselves; this applies both to material possessions as well as RP opportunities.

Rihannsu Star Empire
When joining the RSE, new players generally have the choice between three options:
- Join the Galae, the Rihannsu equivalent of Starfleet
- Join the Kiith Mrevhoqq'ghi, the Rihannsu diplomatic corps
- Join the Arrhe-aevr, the Rihannsu merchant marine
The Tal Shiar is not a legion open for new players.
Most new players choose to join the Galae, but note that all Rihannsu are required to undergo a 5-year-long mandatory military service rigHolo after graduating secondary schooling, so whichever option a new player chooses, their character always has at least some military background.
For a generic overview of a Rihanha's life and education, please refer to Rihannsu Stages of Life.

Starfleet Characters
With a few extraordinary exceptions, all Starfleet officers are required to attend the Academy. All non-medical Starfleet officer characters who attended the Academy are required to select a major and a minor from the list of departments available. Medical officers need only follow the general guidelines and the guidelines of their division.
Your character will need to take all of the General Courses listed on the Academy Courses Page, and all of the courses of their major. For those character's with a minor, select half of the courses (of your choosing), rounded down (e.g. of the 17 courses available for Engineering you'd select 8 classes).
When selecting classes be sure to read them carefully as some are duplicated (appearing in the general requirements and then again in a departmental major, or in multiple departments (sorry, no substitutions)), while others require you to make specific choices (e.g. pick a specialty, select a species to study, pick a language to learn, etc).
And do note that this is not the be all and end all of your character's abilities, nor is this information coded in the Holo system. It simply helps to narrow down what your character would know in character and what they wouldn't.
This isn't to say that they can't learn new skills later on in life, it's just to say they didn't learn them at the Academy.
Starfleet Marine is not an occupation generally open for new players.
